Francis Xavier Forane Church is a historic and significant Syro-Malabar Catholic Church located in Velur, Thrissur district, Kerala, India.It was founded on December 3, 1712, by the German Jesuit missionary Johann Ernst Hanxleden, who is popularly known as Arnos Pathiri.The church is a protected monument in the Archdiocese of Thrissur due to its considerable age and spiritual heritage. The original structure, which was more than 300 years old, was built by Arnos Pathiri.
Arnos Pathiri’s Legacy: The church is closely associated with Arnos Pathiri, who was a multi-talented genius known for his poetry and contributions to the Malayalam language. His former residence, “Arnos Bhavanam,” is also located nearby and is an archaeological memorial.
